Community Conversations

Last year, we worked with the Maryland Humanities Council to host a small series of “Community Conversations” – a pilot program of the Council. At these community conversations, a group of about 18 parents and teachers read the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King and used those to discuss the legacy of Dr. King 40 years later.

We are very proud, this year, to work in collaboration with the Maryland Humanities Council to pilot a new series of programs. Together, we will be offering a series of four conversations this year—one per month through May. Each conversation, facilitated by an outside professional facilitator, will be rooted in a textual reading and focus on a different form of diversity.

Our first Community Conversation will take place on Wednesday, February 4th. There will be dinner served from 6-7 pm and the conversation will take place from 7-9 pm. The conversation will be rooted in the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and will be facilitated by Lydia Woods, program officer at the Maryland Humanities Council.

We have space for 15 parents to participate. If you would like to participate, please send me an e-mail at mchalupa – at – cityneighbors.org or call me at 410-325-2627 or stop me when you see me. The two conversations we had last year were fantastic, so please consider be part of the first of these four community conversations this year!
