Diversity is essential to who we are!
In this spirit, City Neighbors embraces the diversity within our school, community and world. We endeavor to create an environment that values all people of any ability, age, family structure, gender, gender identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic status.
We strive to create this environment through our curriculum, interactions, staffing, policies and procedures.
As the families, staff, and students of City Neighbors, we accept the responsibility to help every member of our school feel safe, respected and valued.

The Diversity Committee continues our on-going work of leading the effort to help City Neighbors become the model of diversity for which we all strive. Here are a preview of upcoming activities and
opportunities:
Many staff members will engage in a conversation on multiculturalism in the classroom as part of our professional development day on February 1st. We will use information brought back from the National Association for Multicultural Education conference as well as leading articles to inform our conversation.
On Wednesday, February 27th, we will host a conversation for parents and staff entitled, “Community Conversations”. Sponsored by the Maryland Humanities Council, this program utilizes the speeches and writings of Dr. King to encourage conversation about remembrance and reconciliation in our world and communities today. As per the guidelines of this program, we can only host 25 participants. More information is to come.
In March, we will be hosting a parent workshop on Cultural Competence, or the notion of participating fully in a diverse community. Please look for more information on this parent opportunity in weeks to come.
Ms. Bennett and I will also host the next Diversity Committee meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 13th at 7:00.
